What is multi-factor authentication?

TDECU Secure4U (multi-factor authentication) consists of verifying and validating the authenticity of an identity using more than one validation mechanism. Why do I need this new security feature?
TDECU is providing an enhanced security feature that helps protect member security while accessing TDECU All-the-Time. On the Internet today, fraudsters attempt to steal your identity by impersonating the Web sites you trust. TDECU is committed to proactively protecting you, our member, against such attacks. This new security feature will help us do this.

The log-in process will be improved to protect the privacy and the security of your personal information. TDECU All-the-Time will still ask you for your Password, but not until you have confirmed you are on the correct Website by visually identifying your TDECU Secure4U image and phrase, let you know you are at the correct Web site.

How will Secure4U confirm my identity?

TDECU Secure4U will confirm your identity by two authentication “factors.”

These factors include:

TDECU Secure4U will use your computer as the second-factor (something you have). If TDECU Secure4U cannot confirm your identity or does not recognize your computer, it will ask you a Challenge Question to which only you know the answer. These Challenge Questions are selected and answered by you when you enroll in the new security feature. If you answer the Challenge Questions correctly, your identity will be confirmed and you can proceed with your TDECU All-the-Time log-in.

How will I know that I am not at a fraudulent site?

Previously, you logged into TDECU All-the-Time using your User ID and Password. With TDECU Secure4U, you’ll also use an image and phrase. Your image and phrase will help you to identify that you are at the real TDECU All-the-Time Web site, not a fraudulent look-alike site.

Here’s how it works:

First, you'll enter your User ID and click the Submit button.

If TDECU Secure4U recognizes the computer you are using, your TDECU Secure4U™ image and phrase will be presented to you on the next page. Once you visually confirm your image and phrase, you'll know you can safely enter your Password. If you don't recognize your image and phrase, don't enter your Password!

I am not an Internet expert. How easy is TDECU Secure4U to use?

Our new security solution, TDECU Secure4U is extremely simple for anyone to use. You don't need to memorize anything new, just look for your TDECU Secure4U™ image and phrase during log-in.

Why will the log-in process change?

Log-in will be changed to protect the privacy and the security of your personal information.

When will I be prompted to sign up?

May 1st - Members with last names starting with A thru I
May 8th - Members with last names starting with J thru R
May 15th - Members with last names starting with S thru Z

Can I access my account from multiple computers?

Yes, you will still be able to access TDECU All-the-Time from any number of computers. If you log-in from a new computer or a public terminal, you will just need to go through one extra step of answering a Challenge Question. This helps protect you by keeping unauthorized people from accessing your valuable information. There is no limit to how many different computers you can use to access your account.

Why might I be asked a question when I try to log in?

Secure4U will ask you a Challenge Question when it detects that you are trying to log in from a new computer or change your log-in pattern (number of log-ins per day). This is to prevent unauthorized access to your accounts. Since only you know the answer to the questions, the system will know it’s really you. Generally you will be asked to answer a secret question only when you log-in for the first time from a new computer. During the log-in you will be asked whether TDECU Secure4U should remember this computer for future log-in. If you are using a public terminal, you will want to answer no.

How do I register a computer for future log-in?

You will be prompted to do so the first time you enter your User ID and click the Submit button from a new computer before entering your Password. During enrollment you will register your computer while selecting and answering your Challenge Questions.

What will keep somebody from stealing my TDECU Secure4U™ image and phrase?

TDECU Secure4U will only show you your TDECU Secure4U image and phrase if you log-in from your registered computer, or after you have answered a secret question. So, it is not possible for an unauthorized person to get access to your TDECU Secure4U™ image and phrase.

When will I establish my TDECU Secure4U image and phrase?

When the new system is activated in the second quarter of 2007, TDECU All-the-Time will prompt you to enroll. In addition to establishing your TDECU Secure4U™ image and phrase, you will also be asked to select and answer Challenge Questions and register your computer for future log-in.

Can I upload my own image?

No, you cannot upload your own image. You must choose one of the 50,000+ images TDECU Secure4U will provide you during enrollment.

Can I change my TDECU Secure4U image and phrase after I enroll?

Yes, after the initial set-up you can change your TDECU Secure4U image, phrase and Challenge Questions by selecting Secure4U in the Preferences section of TDECU All-the-Time.

After implementation, what should I do if my TDECU Secure4U image and/or phrase are incorrect?

Do not enter your password and close out of the Website.

When will I establish my Challenge Questions?

When the new system is activated in the second quarter of 2007, TDECU All-the-Time will prompt you to enroll during normal log-in; TDECU will not email you an online registration form. You will be prompted to enroll the first time you enter your User ID and click the Submit button before entering your Password. In addition to selecting and answering your Challenge Questions, you will also be asked to create your TDECU Secure4U™image and phrase and register your computer for future log-ins.

Can I change my Challenge Questions at any time?

Yes, after the initial set-up you can change your TDECU Secure4U image, phrase and Challenge Questions by selecting Secure4U in the Preferences section of TDECU All-the-Time.

Is Additional Software Necessary?

No. This enhanced security feature will not require you to have any additional hardware or software for your computer. All of the TDECU Secure4U identification and validation takes place behind the scenes.

Why implement multi-factor authentication?

TDECU All-the-Time online banking is very secure. However, any Internet banking system is only as secure as the user.

All banks and credit unions experience “phishing” and “pharming” scams. These scam artists hope users will respond to a fraudulent “look a like” website and give away their person information, allowing identity theft and fraud to take place.

The objectives of TDECU Secure4U (multi-factor authentication) are to allow the end user to:

Also, TDECU Secure4U (multi-factor security system) is needed in order to be in compliance with FFIEC online banking guidelines.

What is the FFIEC?

FFIEC is a body empowered to prescribe uniform principles and standards for the federal examination of financial institutions on behalf of:

What has the FFIEC stated?

The FFIEC said authentication of a customer via simple

Password and ID alone is “inadequate for high-risk transactions involving access to customer information or the movement of funds…”

Over the past year, TDECU has added layers of security to our Internet banking system, TDECU All-the-Time ™ . Past security features have included the addition of processes such as VeriSign ® , Cyveillance ® and alpha numeric Passwords.

To protect the privacy and the security of TDECU All-the-Time user’s personal information, TDECU will be introducing a new security feature in the second quarter of 2007. The new security feature is named TDECU Secure4U ™ . The new security measures will be easy and fast to use… using an “image and phrase” which will allow you to visually verify that they are at the real TDECU All-the-Time Website.

When you visit a branch, we can identify you (with I.D.) and you can identify us. With the introduction of TDECU Secure4U, you will be able to identify TDECU All-the-Time over the Internet.

When you enroll in TDECU Secure4U, you will select an image and a “personal” phrase known only to you. Whenever you log-in to TDECU All-the-Time the new TDECU Secure4U system will display your personal image and phrase, so you can rest assured that you are accessing our real Web site and not an impostor site.

The new TDECU Secure4U security system will also be able to identify you by checking the computer(s) you use when you access TDECU All-the-Time. Typically members will access our Internet banking system from one or two computers, such as a work and home PC. Either way, the new TDECU Secure4U security system will be able to remember your computer, preventing potential fraudsters from logging into the account even if they should acquire or guess your log-in and password. Should you need to log-in from a different computer, such as an Internet café or hotel, TDECU Secure4U will take additional steps to verify your identity, through the use of Challenge Questions set-up by you at the time of enrollment.

Above all, the new TDECU Secure4U will provide a significant increase in our member’s online banking security!
